Some land around the head of the springs is leased by the state to the Silver Springs Natures Theme Park. The park is possibly most famous for its glass-bottom boat rides from which the numerous springs and the associated aquatic life may be viewed.

Manatees commonly frequent the spring run during the winter months when the spring water is considerably warmer than the water of the St. Johns River.
